That’s why we opened our doors in 1993, inspired by the valiant efforts of ZSFG caregivers, and driven by a purpose to provide support for public health wherever it’s needed—in the lab, the clinic, and the community.
For nearly thirty years, the partnership between the Foundation and ZSFG has reflected the spirit and values that define San Francisco. Equity. Compassion. Respect. And a commitment to care for everyone in our city, including the most vulnerable.

With strong roots in the community, we go where we’re needed most, tackling San Francisco’s toughest public health challenges. Founded by volunteers, we maintain a tenacious spirit. We rally support, providing ways to give. And to take action.
Fiercely proud of ZSFG’s history, we celebrate the hospital’s role as a leader in providing equitable healthcare as a human right. We support hospital workers in their mission to give every patient the lifesaving and life-affirming care they need and deserve—with dignity and respect.
We know it takes hands-on action, not just theory or research, to tackle San Francisco’s toughest public health challenges. This is why we deliver innovative whole-person care initiatives that directly address the city’s most urgent needs.
Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center is a public community hospital and the only Level 1 trauma center in San Francisco and northern San Mateo counites. Dedicated to improving the health and wellness of our entire community, ZSFG provides world-class care for all the people of San Francisco, regardless of ability to pay or immigration status.
With a nearly 150-year history of caring for our city, the Foundation has always proudly supported innovative and compassionate public health at ZSFG. Through the Heart of our City Campaign, the Foundation raised $143 million to fund key projects for the state-of-the-art hospital and level-1 trauma center we rely upon today.
