The AIDS crisis tested our community like nothing before. It pushed us to quickly find new treatments, new research, and new processes for protecting the public.
In 1983, we opened Ward 86 and helped develop the San Francisco model of compassionate care. It immediately became the center of care and treatment for the San Francisco AIDS epidemic, and the model of care would soon become the worldwide standard. It’s another example of how Zuckerberg San Francisco General is keeping the heart of San Francisco beating strong.
