The Foundation recently partnered with the City of Vacaville and Genentech to place a Hearts in San Francisco Sculpture at the corner of Main and Parker Street in Downtown Vacaville. Genentech acquired the heart from the Foundation in 2023 and donated it to the City of Vacaville this past year.
Wendy Ackrell’s heart sculpture, “Labyrinthine Heart,” was installed this month as part of the Foundation’s Community Hearts Program in partnership with the City of Vacaville.

“We’re absolutely delighted to join hands with Genentech and the City of Vacaville in this heartfelt endeavor,” said Kim Meredith, CEO of the Foundation. “By extending our reach beyond San Francisco, we’re not just showcasing stunning art – we’re spreading a powerful message of hope and healing. These vibrant heart sculptures serve as beacons of our unwavering commitment to equitable healthcare and a testament to the incredible artistic talent flourishing in our region. It’s our way of ensuring that the spirit of care and creativity touches lives far beyond our city limits.”
“These heart sculptures serve as powerful symbols of compassion and connection," said Vacaville Mayor John Carli. "The ‘Labyrinthine Heart’ will be a lasting reminder of the importance of community, care, and the role art plays in uniting us all. We are thrilled to have this remarkable piece in our city and to partner with Genentech and the Foundation in bringing this beautiful work to Vacaville.”
The Community Hearts Program gifts or loans large Heart sculptures from the Hearts in San Francisco sculpture series to adorn community spaces and organizations for public enjoyment. These sculptures symbolize the city’s commitment to care for all the citizens as the Foundation stands behind the people on the front lines at ZSFG.
