In 2004, 130 Hearts were displayed throughout what was then a parking lot overlooking Oracle Park. Today, one very special Hearts in San Francisco stands on the very same spot. The San Francisco Giants, Pam and Larry Baer, and San Francisco General Hospital Foundation came together to celebrate this new Heart that fans, visitors, and neighbors will be now able to enjoy.

The newest Heart—titled Fibers of Life and designed by local artist The Apexer and auctioned at a recent Hearts in SF Gala—was added to Port of San Francisco’s latest waterfront public space across from Oracle Park, China Basin Park in Mission Rock. The 500-pound sculpture weaves together vibrant oranges, a nod to San Francisco’s favorite color.

This Heart represents the San Francisco Giants’ and Pam and Larry Baer’s dedication to mental health awareness, with the proceeds benefiting ZSFG’s Transform Mental and Behavioral Health Fund, of which Pam was a founding director.

This heart is made of fibers, woven together, interdependent, fragile, yet very strong. Because healing is not a solo endeavor, it happens when we show up for one another, stitch all of our stories together, and refuse to let anyone unravel them. That is community, that is what we are building here. Pam Baer, SFGHF Lifetime Director

For more than 20 years, these Heart Sculptures have symbolized critical investments in our city’s only public hospital, Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital & Trauma Center. Fibers of Life is a beautiful reminder of the power of connection and community.
