This month, a very special heart found its new home. Teatime for the City, a 2020 heart by artist Laine Wiesemann is back on display, just a few short blocks from its former location in Union Square.
2020 Hearts in SF artist Laine Wiesemann has a special connection to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital. In 2017 Wiesmann was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. She began a six month treatment plan at ZSFG, spending almost a week on campus every 21 days. Now in remission, Laine is grateful for the hospital and “how well it ran.
Laine’s Inspiration
Not having known that the she would be working with ZSFG before applying to create a heart, Laine was honored and even proud to be accepted into the program. Her sculpture was a way for her to tell the hospital and its staff “Thank you for saving my life.”
Wiesmann’s heart showcases shades of blue with trumpet flowers, a teacup on the front side of the sculpture and the San Francisco skyline on the back of the sculpture. Her inspiration comes from green tea after having been recommended drinking it during recovery by her oncologist.
