This fall, the Foundation spent the day getting to know one of the many communities in San Francisco with a vibrant history and a strong public health focus, Bayview–Hunters Point.
The Southeast Community Center is a hub of community activities, nonprofit services, early childhood education, and public art. With the help of SECC CEO Emily Rogers-Pharr, the Foundation team was invited to deepen their understanding of the Bayview–Hunters Point community.
This insightful tour led to an engaging conversation with community leader Hydra Mendoza, who focused on the resiliency of the residents in this community who have long advocated for resources to help their community thrive.
Artist André Renay joined the team as well, sharing more about his own focus on social justice movements through art, exemplified by his 2021 Hearts in San Francisco sculpture, Justice, which is proudly on display at the SECC.
