On July 11, over 3,000 people who live, work, or play in San Francisco participated in more than 170 service projects across all 11 districts for One City Day.

A citywide day of service spearheaded by Mayor Daniel Lurie and First Lady Becca Prowda, San Francisco General Hospital Foundation was honored to host a service project in Union Square to clean up the iconic Hearts in San Francisco, and additionally partner with local beautification projects in the Castro District and at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG) to clean up the Hearts in their neighborhoods.

Foundation CEO Kim Meredith was joined by an incredible team from Bank of America, including Managing Director Market Executives Gioia McCarthy and Jeff Minick, as well as an amazing team from San Francisco International Airport, board members Candace Sue and Melissa Chadwick-Dunn, and others, to clean the four Hearts in San Francisco sculptures on display in Union Square — polishing each one-of-a-kind sculpture until it sparkled.

Additionally, a team of volunteers from the San Francisco Department of Health and Bank of America took to cleaning up ZSFG’s grounds and the Castro neighborhood respectively. This work reflects the values of San Francisco and helps build a lasting culture of service.

The Foundation sits at the intersection of public health and civic commitment, and One City Day is civic commitment in its purest form, perfectly showcasing the power of public-private partnerships. Together, we are working to build a healthier, brighter future for San Francisco.
