Heart on Fire

Jennifer Carlquist

Jennifer Carlquist is a cardiology/emergency room physician assistant located in Salinas who heals real hearts in her practice. She specializes in prevention but also treats the sickest of heart failure patients. She believes that art can aid in healing and connecting with her patients, which is also how she finds inspiration for her heart artwork. Lining the walls of each patient room and waiting room is an inspiring heart art piece meant to help her connect with her patients and share the healing that art can provide. Some of the paintings have goddesses; others have inspiring words mixed into the hearts. Her work has been featured in Monterey County Weekly, and her goal is to continue to spread healing light into others through her creative and scientific careers.

Hearts in San Francisco Project

The Hearts in San Francisco project debuted in 2004 with 131 heart sculptures, created by local Bay Area artists and auctioned by the Foundation in support of Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center.

The Foundation raised nearly 3 million dollars for ZSFG in that first year. Today, we carry on this tradition by commissioning and auctioning a new set of hearts each year. The funds raised support those delivering on the promise of accessible and equitable health care for all in our city.
