ABOUT THE FOUNDATION
San Francisco General Hospital Foundation (SFGHF) is a dynamic and growing nonprofit fundraising organization dedicated to promoting equity in healthcare for all at the Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG). Zuckerberg San Francisco General is the only provider of trauma (Level 1) and 24‐hour psychiatric emergency services for 1.5 million people in San Francisco and northern San Mateo counties.
A comprehensive medical center, Zuckerberg San Francisco General provides quality health care with compassion and respect to 100,000 inpatient visits and 500,000 outpatient visits per year, including some of San Francisco’s most vulnerable. In addition, Zuckerberg San Francisco General is one of the nation’s top tertiary academic medical centers conducting clinical training and research. In 2016, Zuckerberg San Francisco General opened a new acute care hospital, and the Foundation concluded a successful multi‐million‐dollar capital campaign.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Development Director, Individual and Corporate Giving, and as a key member of the Development fundraising team, the Individual and Corporate Giving Officer is responsible for identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, securing, and stewarding a new portfolio of major and prospective individual and corporate donors.
The role’s primary objective is to reach annual revenue goals by developing strong and authentic relationships within this portfolio and to engage in ongoing, year-round fundraising and engagements activities. The Officer develops and implements comprehensive gift and engagement plans and tailored strategies for this portfolio to meet the Foundation’s short-and long-term fundraising goals. Fundraising responsibilities include restricted and unrestricted annual gifts, multi-year gifts, cause-marketing and matching gift partners, and event sponsorship.
This position requires a high degree of organization, focus, and the ability to work independently along with strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal colleagues and external stakeholders alike to achieve optimal results.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Annual Fundraising (60%)
- Act as Relationship Manager for a portfolio of at least 75 major ($10,000+) individual donors, corporate supporters, board members, and qualified prospects and to follow portfolio management best practices
- Conduct effective prospecting: ο Engage in an ongoing process for identifying and qualifying suspects
- Elevate select suspects to prospect status using research, community networking, and stakeholder input
- Track moves, progress, and conversion success
- On an appropriate and strategic basis, engage Hospital staff and current and former board members to meet fundraising and engagement goals
- Work with Events and other colleagues to identify a suite of engagement opportunities meant to bring existing donors and prospects closer to the SFGHF mission
- Draft and execute high-quality written materials including cover letters, gift/grant proposals and reports, and other donor correspondence in collaboration with Development leadership
- Engage consultants as necessary
Corporate Fundraising and Engagement (20%)
- Serve on the Hearts in SF Core Team (internal), the Foundation’s annual, signature fundraising event, to support corporate sponsorship engagement and fundraising
- Partner with development staff and external stakeholders, as appropriate, to identify and solicit new prospects and engage past corporate supporters for Hearts and in SF and other fundraising
- With input from colleagues, design and administer sponsorship benefits, maintaining 501(c)(3) IRS compliance
Cross-Team Collaboration (10%)
- Work with Marketing and Communications staff on donor communications and engagement including the digital monthly eNews, a quarterly donor impact report and other fundraising materials
- Integrate major, annual, and planned giving with other organizational activities including events
- Foster a culture of philanthropy across the Foundation team that prioritizes donor-centric relationship building and accountability to fundraising goals
- Partner with Development and other Foundation colleagues on strategic cultivation activities, including small group gatherings and recognition events, involving Foundation and Hospital leadership
Administrative (10%)
- Develop and manage expense and revenue budgets related to specific areas of focus; track performance against goals
- Maintain up-to-date donor records in Raiser’s Edge, including opportunities, actions, and donor contact reports, and manage the input of sponsor, donor, attendee, and other event-related constituent data into Raiser’s Edge
- Conduct donor and market research to identify and qualify new prospects.
- Attend and support offsite events including ones supporting donor cultivation and stewardship, community engagement, and external affairs
- Understand and adhere to basic 501(c)(3) IRS compliance and the Donor Bill of Rights
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- CFRE accreditation or course experience a plus
- Minimum of five years of successful major gifts and/or corporate relations experience, with a proven track record of cultivating, closing, and stewarding five+ figure gifts and/or sponsorships in a complex environment, preferably in a health care, human services, and/or cause-based institution
- Demonstrates the ability to grow and strengthen the donor pipeline by working with internal and external partners to cultivate existing donors to increase and expand their support
- Firsthand experience with donor and prospect research, as well as managing a diverse portfolio of corporate and individual prospects and donors
- Experience supporting donor events and activities is strongly preferred
- Working knowledge of or experience with planned giving strategy and principles is desired
- Proven achievement of building effective, long-term relationships with new and prospective donors, in addition to success in retaining and upgrading existing donors
- Ability to be successful in deadline-oriented settings, both individually and as a collaborative team-player
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Highly organized, metrics-focused, detail oriented, and motivated by ambitious goals and deadlines
- Ability to manage up and across; collaborative, resourceful and responsive
- Good judgment, discretion, diplomacy, and respect for confidentiality
- Knowledge of health care programs, health equity, and public health initiatives a plus
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Raiser’s Edge/RE NXT, and Adobe Acrobat Pro
- Available and willing to work evenings and weekends (as required)
BENEFITS AND HOW TO APPLY:
This role is SF Bay area based with the ability to work a hybrid schedule, with a minimum of two days in the office per week and meet with donors and prospects in person. New hires will be placed in a salary range between $110,000 – 135,000 depending upon their experience.
