ABOUT THE FOUNDATION


San Francisco General Hospital Foundation (SFGHF) is a dynamic and growing nonprofit fundraising organization dedicated to promoting equity in healthcare for all at the Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG). Zuckerberg San Francisco General is the only provider of trauma (Level 1) and 24‐hour psychiatric emergency services for 1.5 million people in San Francisco and northern San Mateo counties.

 

A comprehensive medical center, Zuckerberg San Francisco General provides quality health care with compassion and respect to 100,000 inpatient and 500,000 outpatient visits per year, including some of San Francisco’s most vulnerable. In addition, Zuckerberg San Francisco General is one of the nation’s top tertiary academic medical centers conducting clinical training and research. In 2016, Zuckerberg San Francisco General opened a new acute care hospital, and the Foundation concluded a successful multi‐million‐dollar capital campaign.

POSITION SUMMARY:


Reporting to the Associate Director, Development Operations, the Database and Donor Information Manager is a critical operational role that works closely and collaborates with Development and Finance team members to provide crucial data and analysis in support of organizational revenue goals and communication needs.

 

This key operational position oversees all aspects of the organization’s donor database (Raiser’s Edge NXT) to improve database utilization, make informed donor and external relations recommendations, and support the identification, solicitation, and stewardship of donors and prospects. The ideal candidate will take a proactive leadership role on the development team to guide and ensure that operational resources, processes, and procedures support and facilitate fundraising and outreach goals.

 

Core duties include the following: gift entry, regular data hygiene, analysis of trends and statistics to guide fundraising and outreach, reliable reporting, and management of several third-party vendor platforms. This position works closely and collaborates with members of the Finance team to reconcile figures and ensure best practice compliance. The Database and Donor Information Manager also brings informed expertise to the role and operates autonomously as needed while also building trusted, collaborative relationships with Development team fundraisers to influence, inform, and guide their solicitations and work plans.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

FUNDRAISING SUPPORT: 45%

  • Utilize database expertise to support prospect research and qualification
  • Oversee the implementation of Blackbaud’s Prospect Insights’ wealth prospecting tool to inform and build donor pipelines between the Foundation’s annual fund, major gifts and other giving programs
  • In partnership with the Associate Director, Development Operations, manage the organization’s Moves Management process
  • Direct the proposal process in Raiser’s Edge to fundraisers, including creating and sharing timelines, reminders, follow-up, etc. as needed. Update and edit gift proposals to ensure accurate tracking and reporting.
  • Assist and support the Foundation’s events with duties such as tracking event invitations and attendance in Raiser’s Edge NXT and in OneCause, and providing pre- and post-event reporting
  • Play an active role in online and email fundraising efforts and provide testing, review, and input, as well as identify opportunities for improvement within Raiser’s Edge NXT and MailChimp
  • Partner with Annual Fund Manager, marketing and communications staff, and others on the Foundation’s online giving campaigns and platforms to ensure an optimal donor experience

 

LISTS AND REPORTING: 30%

  • Produce detailed lists and reports based on evolving criteria and output, requiring knowledge of Foundation data and Raiser’s Edge capabilities
  • Perform regular audits to ensure the integrity of the data and reconcile gifts, grants, and pledges with the Finance department
  • Ensure pledge protocols are followed and proactively prepare pledge reminders
  • Work with Development team fundraisers, the Events team, and Communications staff to determine their needs and pull, segment, and analyze data/lists for their mail and email solicitations, stewardship touchpoints, email lists, event invitations, etc.
  • Generate gift reports detailing individual, corporate, foundation, and other revenue and/or outstanding gifts
  • Work closely with Finance to complete the annual audit and coordinate donor giving information for audit and recognition purposes

 

GIFT ADMINISTRATION AND DATABASE MANAGEMENT: 15%

  • Oversee and manage the SFGHF donor database, Raiser’s Edge NXT. Specific responsibilities include providing insights and analytics to Development, such as configuring the database and data reporting and analysis to best meet the organization’s evolving needs; and adhering to evolving best practices
  • Oversee day-to-day gift and fundraising operations including gift entry; continually identifying and implementing areas for improvement; and taking initiative to problem solve or make the case for change to others as needed
  • Code and enter all gifts, grants, pledges, and proposals
  • Lead and guide the use of proposals, appeal codes, sources, attributes, and other data tracking tools in Raiser’s Edge NXT for contribution analysis and donor stewardship
  • Maintain external vendor and consulting relationships, including as the point of contact with Blackbaud / Raiser’s Edge and other back-end fundraising vendors, to ensure optimal data and fundraising outcomes
  • Manage electronic and hard copy donor files, including leading and facilitating the ongoing need to digitize files, centralize digital file storage, and ensure ease of access to key donor documents
  • Develop and train others for policies and protocols for the storage and confidentiality of donor information
  • Ensure adherence to data hygiene, best practices, and donor information protocols through ongoing self-education and training as supported by SFGHF professional development resources

 

COMMUNICATIONS AND GENERAL ADMINISTRATION: 10%

  • Display effective communication skills and a client relations orientation to all internal and external relationships
  • Provide staff cross-training as needed

Required experience and skills

  • 5+ years’ experience in the field of database management
  • Advanced skills in Raiser’s Edge; formal training and/or certification
  • High degree of comfort with autonomy and independent decision-making
  • Critical ability to manage own workload, track projects from start to finish, prioritize effectively, communicate clearly and proactively, and meet deadlines
  • Comfort and experience with adherence to and enforcement of database and data hygiene best practices
  • Computer proficiency and demonstrated ability to learn new systems
    • Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint
  • Detail-oriented, collaborative, and accurate
  • Ability to self-manage workload, prioritize proactive and thorough communications with leadership and other stakeholders, and achieve a high degree of output
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups and with individuals
  • Flexible, adaptable, and responsive
  • Good judgment, discretion, diplomacy, and a respect for confidentiality

 

Preferred experience and skills

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience with fundraising software, particularly OneCause and Omatic
  • Experience with email marketing automation, particularly MailChimp
  • Experience with wealth screening, particularly Blackbaud’s Prospect Insights
  • Experience with PaperSave a plus
  • Commitment to help fundraisers parse data and perform more successfully

San Francisco General Hospital Foundation offers a competitive compensation package based upon experience. The annual salary range for this position is $90,000 – $100,000. Compensation also includes medical, dental, and vision insurance as well as professional development opportunities, 403(b) retirement plan, life and AD&D insurance, commuter discounts, and vacation.

 

This is a hybrid role with partial days onsite and partial days working remotely. As the Foundation is housed within a City of San Francisco building and because we work closely in tandem with our Hospital partners, all onsite San Francisco General Hospital Foundation employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment (except in cases of a verified medical condition or sincerely held religious belief, and only then if it causes no undue hardship to the organization or is otherwise mandated by state or federal laws).
