In recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month in April, the Trauma Recovery Center (TRC) at ZSFG received a special visit from Jennifer Siebel Newsom, First Partner of California. Debuting a new roadmap for improving care for survivors of sexual violence, the First Partner was joined by Dr. Sarah Metz, TRC Director, to outline a new set of best practices for agencies across the state.

The TRC was one of the first centers in the country to focus on the healing journeys of victims of violence, and the San Francisco General Hospital Foundation is proud to have made past investments into such an innovative center of care.

“We’ve laid out a bold, actionable path forward that is rooted in healing, justice, and accountability because every survivor deserves to be treated with dignity.” Jennifer Siebel Newsom

The TRC is a previous recipient of a Equity and Innovation Grant in 2018, in which the team received funding to train its clinicians in three evidence-based therapies to better support victims of violent crime, many of whom face serious barriers to care. The program successfully trained 11 clinicians, who all reported increased understanding, comfort, and satisfaction with the new interventions.
