In 1991, a dedicated group of volunteers joined efforts to raise funds and donate clothing, food and other basic items to help meet the needs of the many vulnerable residents who sought care at Zuckerberg San Francisco General. This work was the catalyst for the San Francisco General Hospital Foundation. Incorporated in 1993, the Foundation’s initial mission focused on improving the care and comfort of patients at Zuckerberg San Francisco General. This mission continues today and has been expanded in recognition of the world-renowned research and training excellence that takes place on Zuckerberg San Francisco General’s campus, as well as the hospital’s role as the only Level 1 Trauma Center serving San Francisco and northern San Mateo County. Since its establishment, the Foundation has raised over $220 million in support for Zuckerberg San Francisco General.
Now more than ever, the Foundation remains dedicated to matching the needs at Zuckerberg San Francisco General with donor interests to ensure our City’s public hospital remains one of the finest in the nation.
